Now that I am back home, I am checking out the latest news about McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.
In the few days I have been gone, the McCain campaign has created a celebrity-style buzz about her life, family, hobbies, etc.. And of course she has come under the scrutiny of the media, which should be no surprise compared to what every other candidate for a high level office has experienced.
The folks at the convention loved this speech, but I was wanting something more than a speechwriter's retoric. And it is really interesting to see so many folks at the RNC distance themselves from President Bush, who was their "shining star" just 4 years ago?
I think we all figured out that she has the ability to be a tough talker, but I still have not seen evidence that she is capable of backing up McCain as VP (especially because he is not getting any younger last I checked). I have heard a few folks mentioning that Karl Rove's choice for VP would have been Mitt Romney, and that McCain wanted to originally select Lieberman. I think either of these gentlemen would have served the McCain ticket well, and I cannot say this appointment was a good judgement call by McCain's campaign team.
Is there enough time for Palin to demonstrate her ability to serve on the National stage against the key issues? Perhaps the VP debate will provide a better forum for a serious discussion on her ideas for change?
One last note on this: My family member sent me an email that was distributed by a resident from Wasilla, Alaska, who wrote a letter about Sarah Palin. It brought up an interesting perspective about the VP candidate and I have a feeling we will be hearing from more folks in that small town in Alaska...My2Buckswebsite
