Remembering ~ Band of Brothers
As we prepare for Memorial Day, I think about those men & women who have served our country in times of war, and who have tragically been lost. However you feel about war, I think it is important to say a prayer & take a moment to remember those who have fought & those who fight today.
When I think of war, I come back to many films that have captured the violence, turmoil, bravery & courage of wartime; Band of Brothers captures all this and so much more, based on true experience from a company of WWII veterans. The film, Band of Brothers, is a focused on Easy Company fighting in WWII Europe, as told by Major Richard Winters.
Below in an excerpt from his book "Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters."
"To find a quite peace is a dream of every soldier. For some it takes longer than others. In my own experience, I have discovered that it is far easier to find quiet than to find peace. True peace must come from within oneself. As my wartime buddies join their fallen comrades at an alarming rate, distant memories resurface. The hard times fade and the flashbacks go back to friendly times, to buddies with whom I shared a unique bond, to men who are my brothers in every sense of the word.
I live with these men every day. The emotions remain intense. Here is my story set against the backdrop of war and among the finest collection of men I've ever had the pleasure to know."
